History of Trinity Baptist Church
Trinity Baptist Church began in 1977 on Morris Street in downtown Waynesburg. Soon after, it moved out to its new location on the east end of Waynesburg since it opened its doors and heart to the community. As the "Church with a Heart," Trinity Baptist Church has seen many people come through its doors and be able to give the ultimate gift back to God: their heart. Numerous people have been saved through the direct ministry of those who lead and those who attend.
We continue to run services mostly the same way as back in 1977. However, there have been a few changes and modernization. In 2014, Pastor David Woods (we call him Pastor Dave) took over as Senior Pastor from his father, Dr. Ed Woods. He has brought a lot of his experience from being a Youth Pastor into the main service. In 2016, Pastor Dave introduced puppets into a part of the morning service to reach the children and engage them more into the service before dismissal for Junior Church. About a year later, Pastor Dave brought two men into his team to help with leading music, working with the youth, and helping with events, including Vacation Bible School. Bro. Damon Keys and Bro. Eric Gray were moved into these roles. Today, Bro. Damon remains as Youth Director while Bro. Eric has moved to teaching in the nursing home ministry. As the church doubled in size between 2015 and 2020, Pastor Dave added more men to his leadership team.
During the extreme growth of the church, Facebook Live began to be used for recording much of the morning service. Thousands of people have had the ability to hear the Gospel and only Heaven will tell how many have asked Jesus into their heart as a response to hearing His Word. Revival services have been a regular part of the yearly schedule. Many of those services are recorded, just like our normal services. Many people have been saved during the revivals over the years, and many more have been able to get closer to God as a result of hearing God's Word preached.
Untold amounts of people have been saved by indirect parts of the ministry. Missions and missionaries have been at the heart of Trinity Baptist Church since the mid-1990s. Under the leadership of Dr. Ed Woods, the church went from supporting just four missionaries out of the general fund to supporting more than 20 missionaries out of a separate, dedicated Missions Fund with a full Faith Promise Missions program. Since then, Trinity Baptist Church added more missionaries through the faithful giving of Faith Promise. Now, Trinity Baptist Church supports the ministries of over 30 missionary families all across the world, including some in the United States. It is the heartbeat of our church.
We continue to be the church with a heart and invite all who will read this to stop by for a service. We would like to see you in person, and show you the ways God has for all of us.
We love you and hope you can be closer to God today than you were yesterday, and you will be closer to Him tomorrow than today.
Let us know how we can help!
